Portishead Sound, Pill Community Choir, Portishead in Harmony and Clevedon A Cappella - what a year we’ve had!
Charity Donations
This has been a great year for singing and raising money for good causes. Our concerts are always real crowd pleasers and all the profits are donated to charity.
Last summer we raised over £6000 for WaterAid as part of Sing for Water West and since then we’ve helped the following charities; Duchenne UK, Home Start, St George’s Church Easton in Gordano, Cruse Bereavement Care, Amyloidosis Research, Pill Community Band, Springboard Opportunities Group and St Michael’s Church Clapton in Gordano.
Since July 2018 our total charity donations have been over £10,000 – what a great result!
Health Benefits
Did you know that singing is good for your health? Research has shown that it helps heart and lung health, the immune system, your posture and is a great stress buster as well as a place to meet some lovely people!
Songs we’ve sung
Our “big number” this year has been Copacabana (Barry Manilow) which was hilarious (see below) and we’ve also learned Lean on Me by Bill Withers, Waterloo Sunset by Ray Davies, This is Me from the Greatest Showman, Have yourself a Merry little Christmas, and a variety of other fabulous songs.
Here's Portishead Sound at Christchurch Clevedon in May singing Copacabana - with a few theatricals in the middle!
Want to join?
Whether you are a confident singer or have only ever sung in the privacy of your own bathroom you are welcome to come along to try out any of the choirs. There are no auditions and no need to read music. Music readers are welcome – it’s a valuable skill to learn music by ear!
Wendy's style of teaching is uplifting and inspiring. She teaches songs by singing and repetition and the harmonies build like magic. She can help you use your voice effectively and you quickly find yourself singing along in four part harmony without really trying.
Where/How?
